NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – For every child who grew up with Thomas the Train, or for those still fascinated by the locomotive, it is a dream come true. The New Braunfels Railroad Museum, operated by the New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society, will be hosting the 1st Railroad Museum Modelers Show during the last weekend of Wurstfest at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center, 375 S. Castell Ave.
The group plans to make the show an annual Wurstfest event.
“This is strictly a modelers’ show,” says David Albright, president of the New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society. “We have invited various organizations to bring their layouts and operate their layouts during the show.”
Each person that attends the show will receive a ballot and will be able to vote on his favorite display. The first-place winner will receive $300. The event also will include door prizes and refreshments.
Seven to 10 groups from all over Texas will be participating in the event, operating modular model railroads in Z, N, HO, S, O and G scales. The largest display is 10 feet by 56 feet.
“It is very detailed,” Albright says.
Modelers have been known to include people, animals, town signs, windmills, street lamps and more in their layouts.
“We will also have a layout that is lower to the ground for children to operate to they can be an engineer,” Albright says. “They really enjoy that.”
The show will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8. Admission is $6 per adult (18 and older) or $15 per family.
The New Braunfels Historic Railroad and Modelers Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of railroad artifacts and education.
