NEW BRAUNFELS, TXNew Braunfels Mayor and Wurstfest President Bruce Boyer became involved in the Wurstfest Association the first year he moved to New Braunfels, more than 30 years ago.

“It was obviously a privilege to become involved because Wurstfest, even then, was the one organization that brought all others such as Rotary, Lions, Optimists and the Jaycees together in one large community effort,” Boyer says.

The Wurstfest President says he has always been excited about the festival because of the way it brings the entire community together and raises money for various charities and causes. The 49th annual Wurstfest begins on Friday, Oct. 30 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Wurstfest grounds in Landa Park along the Comal River.

Boyer, who was born in Nebraska and raised in Houston, came to New Braunfels in 1976 after graduating from law school in Dallas. Since that time, he has served as assistant district attorney, county attorney, city prosecutor for the City of New Braunfels and now mayor. Boyer is a real estate attorney, having served as president of Ameripoint Title Company since 1985. He is a past president of the Texas Land Title Association and has served on various civic organizations.

As Wurstfest President, Boyer says he essentially serves as chairman of the board.

“Although (the President) serves as leader of the organization, chairing meetings and making executive decisions, it is the officers, the executive committee, the standing committees and the membership who ultimately set the agenda and make it possible,” Boyer says. “It is our excellent chief executive officer and staff who make sure our programs are carried out on a day-to-day operation.”

Boyer has served on several Wurstfest committees including Gates, Entrance, Finance, Entertainment and Bar Sales. He is married to Toya Ohlrich. Between them, they have three grown daughters and five grandchildren.

Some of his favorite Wurstfest foods include kartoffel puffers and sausage.

The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote the local economy through tourism and promote and preserve the community’s rich German heritage. Proceeds from the event benefit a wide variety of projects.

Admission to the Wurstfest grounds will be free from 4 to 7 p.m. on opening night, Oct. 30. After that, admission to the festival is $8 at the gate; and children ages 12 and younger will be admitted free at all times. Group rates, advance discounts and special weekday promotions are available. For information about Wurstfest, call 830/625-9167 or 1-800-221-4369, or visit the Web site at www.wurstfest.com.
